EVLO
A 9 MW / 9 MWH BATTERY STORAGE FACILITY
Hydro-Québec’s battery energy storage subsidiary, EVLO, inaugurated its first international project in France in September 2022. The project, called “Tonnerre”, the result of a collaboration with Innergex, will “contribute to the stability” of the French electricity transmission network.
This 9 MW / 9 MWh Battery Electric Storage System (BESS) is intended to provide energy storage to participate in the RTE* capacity market mechanism.
EVLO was selected by the Quebec company Innergex to provide the energy storage system required for the project. By offering a turnkey solution including the battery energy storage system, its installation, commissioning, monitoring and maintenance, EVLO contributes to the stability and security of the French grid.

Evlo entrusted CAP INGELEC with the detailed engineering and construction of the energy storage system installation in order to provide stability to the grid during periods of high voltage and to contribute to the balance of the French transmission system by allowing to contain the deviation and restore the target frequency of 50 Hz.
Cap Ingelec worked closely with EVLO’s development teams to advise them on technical modifications to adapt their system to the French market and thus meet RTE’s requirements. Based on this collaboration, Cap Ingelec worked with EVLO for the detailed engineering and turnkey construction of the storage system:
