An ultra secure digital campus in Madrid
The DATA4 Group continues to expand its geographical presence in Europe, with the development of its campus in Italy and the opening of a fourth campus in Spain in 2020. The project aims to create a 7,310 sqm datacenter with 13 MW of IT capacity by 2023-2024.
The group has chosen to locate in the municipality of Alcobendas, a suburb near Madrid, due to the presence of numerous telecom access points and its proximity to the center of the capital.
The new DATA4 campus covers an area of 2 hectares.

CAP INGELEC and its subsidiary CAP DC ESPANA have been mandated by DATA 4 to transform a warehouse into a datacenter.
This Engineering & Construction project is divided into 3 independent phases of 3 MW each and 1 phase of 4 MW. At the same time, we were tasked with connecting the site to the IBERDROLA electricity supplier’s source substations. This includes the installation of 4 high-voltage (20kV) lines in urban areas (including motorway crossings) over a length of several kilometres, which will eventually supply 13 MW IT to the DATA 4 data centre.
The first tranche of 3 MW IT has just been delivered, and the first two high-voltage lines (5 MW) will be commissioned at the end of 2020.
The project has been designed to be as energy-efficient as possible, taking into account local climate data, the level of redundancy required by the customer (TIER III), and operating constraints.
To successfully complete this refurbishment project, our teams had to innovate and meet a number of technical requirements. In particular, part of the existing building had to be reused (the façade was retained). Cap Ingelec is fully conversant with all the issues involved in turnkey projects (definition of requirements, technical definition, implementation, commissioning, etc.).
We integrated and carried out the entire design using BIM (Building Information Modeling) right from the design phase. The BMS (Building Management System) (customer interface software and technical cabinets) were also designed in our workshops, by our teams.
We bring all the technical skills needed to build a datacentre with a performance requirement that has won over the biggest international data processing companies. Our turnkey offer guarantees our customers a coherent project, as well as control over deadlines, costs, quality and energy consumption.

This project mobilised our French teams (multi-agency) as well as our Spanish employees via our international subsidiary CAP DC España. It was a team success, integrating a complex set of design, planning and Covid-19 event constraints… Engineering at the service of a turnkey project…
