Analysis of energy and environmental performance indicators for datacentres
Benoit Ploux, Datacenter Energy Performance Engineer, presents his analysis of energy and environmental performance indicators for datacenters in the December issue of J3E magazine.
Datacenters, whose servers are used by some 20 billion terminals or connected objects worldwide, currently account for nearly 1% of global electricity consumption. The increase in digital uses (number of connected terminals, online video, IotT, VR, etc.) suggests that this sector will continue to consume a lot of energy. Since we can only improve what we measure, the use of relevant indicators is an essential first step in improving the energy and environmental impact of data centres.
