QAIR
1st project for a renewable hydrogen production plant, Hyd’Occ in Port-La-Nouvelle
The project company Hyd’Occ, a subsidiary of Qair, an independent producer of renewable energy, and the Agence Régionale Energie Climat d’Occitanie (AREC), and Cap Ingelec, are taking advantage of their presence at the Hyvolution trade fair to announce the signing of a large-scale contract associated with the creation of a decarbonated hydrogen plant in Port-la Nouvelle (Aude).
Hyd’Occ will invest €60 million in the construction of a green hydrogen production plant in Port-la Nouvelle. In collaboration with the Agence Régionale Energie Climat d’Occitanie (AREC) and ADEME, this project aims to provide a “zero carbon” mobility solution in the region. A pioneer in France, this first plant will make Occitanie one of the leading “Zero Emission Mobility” regions in France. More broadly, this production unit is part of the energy transition policy initiated by the Occitanie Region with its €150 million green hydrogen plan.

The company Hyd’Occ, supported by the Occitanie Region, the ADEME, France Relance, the European Community and the European Investment Bank, has entrusted Cap Ingelec with the turnkey construction of the electrical substation for this new plant on the RTE network (63kV). “Cap Ingelec was able to understand our expectations, our economic stakes and our implementation requirements in a demanding competitive dialogue”, declares the Team in charge of the Process Implementation. Hyd’Occ chose the technical solutions proposed by Cap Ingelec to meet the needs, constraints and requirements expected for the project and to ensure the best performance of its plant while providing great operating flexibility. Flexible and scalable, the new plant will have an initial production capacity of 3000 t/year and will gradually double its capacity.
This contract reinforces Cap Ingelec’s position as a designer and builder of critical infrastructures and hydrogen, demonstrating their expertise in turnkey projects in constrained and technical environments.
To produce green hydrogen, the future plant will be connected to local renewable energy resources and the energy mix of the local grid. This is a highly technically demanding project that requires a high degree of expertise in terms of performance and technical skills. For example, the production of hydrogen by electrolysis had to be taken into account, as this new technology has repercussions on the electricity networks.
In February 2024, a key event took place on the construction site of the HV substation in Port-la-Nouvelle: the delivery and installation of the power transformer, manufactured in the Lyon region. With this latest milestone, the site is continuing to make progress, thanks to our site teams, who are fully committed to meeting the deadlines!
Cap Ingelec has been selected by the renewable energy company QAIR, through the Hyd’Occ project, as general contractor for the design and construction of the 63kV/20kV high-voltage power supply substation. This will supply the future hydrogen production plant using the electro-chemical process of water electrolysis.
